Sergei Eisenstein's final film, this is the first part of a three-part biopic of Czar Ivan Grozny, which was never completed due again to producer dissatisfaction with Eisenstein's attempts to use forbidden experimental filming techniques and excessive cost overruns. The second part was completed but not released for a decade after Eisenstein's death and a change of heart in the USSR government toward his work; the third part was only in its earliest stage of filming when shooting was stopped altogether. In this first part, set during the early part of his reign, Ivan faces betrayal from the aristocracy and even his closest friends as he seeks to unite the Russian people.

Amazon.com: Ivan the Terrible Part I (China Version): Li ...Well I ordered it. I got part 2 in the box that stated it was Part 1 of Ivan the terrible. So I have 2 part 2s. That is bad enough. Theres worse both of the dvds stated in big letters in front that they are Digitally Remastered. They look just as bad as they did when I saw them in the 1960's. So that is false.

Ivan the Terrible, Parts I & II movie review (1958 ...The two parts of Eisenstein's "Ivan the Terrible" are epic in scope, awesome in visuals, and nonsensical in story. It is one of those works that has proceeded directly to the status of Great Movie without going through the intermediate stage of being a good movie. I hope earnest students of cinema will forgive me when I say every serious movie lover should see it -- once.
